The Perth & District Union Public Library has all sorts of summer activities this year!

The library will be hosting the TD Summer Reading Club, with registration starting Wednesday June 23rd. This year’s theme is Game On! Whether we’re playing in the library, online, around a table or in a field, independently or on a team, we’ll stretch our physical and mental limits and give it our best, for the love of the game. Registration will be online and open to all ages. All ages can read to win prizes through the summer, and each child who registers will receive a kit via the library’s curbside pickup service . The kit contains an activity book, stickers and a web access code to use the TD Summer Reading Club Website. Stay tuned for our summer calendar for kids, which will include activities for July & August.

The library’s Summer Literacy Program is entering into its 32nd year! This program offers one-on-one tutoring for children JK – Grade 3 who have been identified by their teachers as needing extra help with their reading and writing. This past year has been challenging for all of us, but especially for young learners. The library currently has a fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 to help run this program. To make a donation, please visit https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/39110

The library will also be offering Babytime and Storytime through the summer months.

Babytime is every Tuesday at 10:30am. Beginning June 15th, Babytime will transition to an outdoor, in-person program in Stewart Park! This program is for newborns, ages 0-1, and introduces new parents and their newborns to a variety of songs and rhymes to lay the foundation for early literacy. Registration is required for contact tracing. Please register via EventBrite here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/babytime-in-the-park-tickets-156757775727

Virtual Storytime is every Thursday at 9:30am. For toddlers and children, ages 1-5, Heidi leads a combination of songs, rhymes and stories to develop the five building blocks of early literacy: play, sing, talk, read, and write. Email Heidi at htaber@perthunionlibrary.ca to get the Zoom link.
