The Friends of Perth & District Union Public Library was formed in September 1993. The Friends of the Library help the library achieve its vision, outlined in its 2017-21 Strategic Plan. Friends:

  • Raise funds to support improvements to the library’s collections and services
  • Promote the library and its educational, informational and cultural resources
  • Promote literacy
  • Advocate on behalf of the library to local policy makers and community members
  • Support the library at community outreach events

Since its inception the Friends of the Library have held a number of successful fundraising events, such as used book sales, bake sales, and raffles. Other social events they have sponsored include donations of prizes for library art contests, donations of prizes for the library’s summer reading program, author readings, programs for seniors, etc. The Friends are also one of the many sponsors of the library’s summer literacy program for children.

Over the years, the Friends have raised more than $95,000 for our library. As advocates for the library, the Friends have visited local councils in support of increased funding and surveyed political candidates on the issue of public library support.
